ARCHITECTURAL TECHNOLOGIST
Location: Calgary, Alberta
Type: Hybrid - Studio/Remote
The Opportunity
Are you a detailed, adaptable Architectural Technologist who loves taking custom residential projects from concept to reality? Do you have strong drafting skills backed by a deep understanding of how high-end homes actually get built?
Alloy Homes is seeking an intermediate to senior Architectural Technologist to serve as a core technical engine for our upcoming portfolio of luxury design/build projects. Working directly with our Design Manager, Interior Design Lead, managing partners and construction team, you will bring complex custom home designs to life through precise documentation, 3D visualization, and hands-on site coordination.

The Role
As an Architectural Technologist, you will play a critical role in drafting, design development, and project coordination. As part of a small team, you must be comfortable delivering high quality work across four main pillars:
1. Permit & Technical Documentation
• Lead the production of comprehensive Development Permit (DP) and Building Permit (BP) drawing sets for high-end custom residential projects by translating Sketchup design models.
• Ensure drawing packages strictly adhere to Part 9 of the Alberta Building Code, municipal land-use bylaws, and internal drafting standards.
• Manage DP/BP municipal submissions, track review progress, and address authority inquiries.
2. Multi-Disciplinary Design Support
• Assist with both architectural detailing and interior design documentation (millwork, finishes, reflective ceiling plans, and schedules).
• Produce high-quality 3D renderings and project visualizations to assist with design development, client presentations, and marketing efforts.
• Support marketing initiatives using project visuals and design assets.
• Work closely with the Design Manager, Managing Partners, and outside consultants (structural, mechanical, civil) to keep projects moving efficiently.
3. Construction Administration & Site Collaboration
• Collaborate directly with construction managers, trades, and site supervisors to translate technical drawings into buildable reality.
• Review shop drawings, answer RFIs, and resolve technical detailing challenges on-site or in the studio.
• Participate in site visits to verify field conditions and monitor construction progress against drawing intent.
4. BIM Management
• Build, maintain, and continuously refine Alloy’s custom Revit templates, family libraries, and drafting standards to ensure high-end design consistency across all projects.
• Oversee BIM workflows across the studio, enforcing modeling protocols, graphic standards, and parameter setups that reflect Alloy's commitment to quality and brand excellence.
• Streamline model setup, sheet production, and content management to improve drafting efficiency and ensure seamless collaboration between design, interiors, and construction teams.
About You
You are a proactive, detail-oriented professional who takes pride in bulletproof drawing sets and technical accuracy.
• You are adaptable: You thrive in a small studio environment where flexibility is key, and you enjoy stepping outside pure drafting to assist with interior packages, 3D renders, or marketing visuals.
• You understand construction: You don't just draw lines — you know how materials assemble in the field and anticipate framing or envelope details before they hit the site.
• You are organized: You manage your time effectively, keep track of complex drawing revisions, and hit permit deadline targets consistently.
• You are a team player: You leave your ego at the door and enjoy collaborating across disciplines to solve complex design and technical puzzles.
Qualifications
• Education: Diploma in Architectural Technologies from an accredited institution (e.g., SAIT or equivalent).
• Experience: Minimum 5 years of professional drafting experience dedicated to single-family residential projects in Alberta.
• Code & Bylaw Mastery: Thorough, practical knowledge of Part 9 of the Alberta Building Code and local municipal land-use bylaws (Calgary, Edmonton, Canmore and surrounding areas).
• Software Proficiency: Advanced proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD, and SketchUp is essential. Experience with rendering tools (e.g., Enscape, V-Ray, Lumion, or Twinmotion) and Adobe Creative Suite is highly desirable.
• Construction Background: Hands-on construction or site administration experience is considered a major asset.
